Anti Snoring Tips

The very first anti-snoring device, the ingenious tennis-ball-in-a-sock, which helped people sleep on their sides and not their backs has been joined by some 300 more devices invented in the years since. There are, nevertheless, other devices which emit irritating stimuli whenever a person snores. Normal breathing requires an unrestricted air flow, so anything unusual in the passageways can cause issues.

Some folks do not think of snoring as a big issue, but it really can be. Long term health problems including obstructive sleep apnea and being deprived of normal comfortable sleep are found in individuals who suffer from snoring. And anyway, this usually results in embarrassment and often affects an individual's sleep.

But, obstructive sleep apnea, is a different situation, where snoring is continuously being interrupted because there is a complete obstruction of breathing to the patient. This occurs at an average of ten seconds long and may happen at around 7 times in an hour so a person may suffer from 30 up to 300 episodes in one night alone. Such episodes will reduce the level of oxygen in the blood, which drives the heart to pump harder. A forced light sleep keeps the muscles in a tensed state which helps facilitate a regular flow of air in the lungs but then results in unrelaxed rest. Thus, throughout the day the person will become sleepy which causes them not to function well and will help contribute to the enlargement of the heart and raised blood pressure.

Snoring normally concerns the tissues involved in breathing but there are a couple of reasons why the air passage is narrow, which is itself, a good contributor to issue snoring. This may be due to enlarged tonsils, elongated soft palate and thick soft palate, and abnormality in the tissues at the back of the throat which can all cause obstruction in the air passage. Anything that relaxes the muscles in the throat too much will cause snoring, and since alcohol is a relaxant and sedative, it certainly does relax the muscles of the throat, and therefor can contribute to snoring. Thus, regular intake of alcohol close bedtime can cause disruptive snoring.

More often than not, snoring is associated with obstructive sleep apnea so it is best that you are properly diagnosed so that the correct treatment can be prescribed. Interruption of the normal flow of air through your throat may also be due to biological causes. Snoring occurs when the bridge of the nose is either crooked or from any type of congestion in the nasal passage.

Surgery that applies a permanent treatment has proven to be highly effective. Many people don't realize that snoring can become a life threatening condition. As with any medical condition getting an early diagnosis is beneficial for effective treatment. If you go undiagnosed and untreated, your condition will most likely get worse.
